Yeshua - The Life of Messiah

This study follows a thematic approach. The basic theme being developed is Y'shua (Jesus), the Messianic King. The Gospels record the coming of tne King, the reactions to the King, the subsequent reaction of the King, the death and resurrection of the King, the departure of the King, and the promise of the return of the King.

In this study, the issue of the kingship of Y'shua, His Messianic declarations, and His subsequent rejection will be very heavily interrelated with Pharisaic Judaism. While the harmony used in this study is based on that of A. T. Robertson, it will not use his outline. The outline used Will follow a thematic approach. The primary material used for this study is from YESHUA, THE LIFE OF MESSIAH, From a Messianic Jewish Perspective, Dr. Arnold G. Fruchtenbaum, TH. M., PH.D.

Part I The Coming of the King: This section concerns the birth narratives, infancy, baptism, and temptation. It marks G-d's official presentation of Y'shua as the Messianic King.

Part II The Authentication of the King: Y'shua begins to present Himself to Israel as the promised Messiah and authenticates Himself with miracles, signs, and wonders. This is the time when He goes from city to city and synagogue to synagogue, offering the Messianic Kingdom to Israel. To receive the Messianic kingdom, Israel must accept Him as the Messianic King. During this period1 He receives opposition from the Pharisees.

Part III The Controversy over the King: In this section, the leadership of Israel officially rejects Him, largely due to His repudiation of Pharisaic Judaism. In response to this rejection, there is a radical change in the nature of His ministry.

Part IV The Training of the Twelve by the King:Following His rejection, He works primarily with His disciples, training them for their mission--one they will perform later in the book of Acts.

Part V The Opposition to the King: Whereas earlier the opposition came only from the leaders now it also comes from the common people. In this section the people begin to follow the leaders, rejecting His Messiahship and the authenticating miracles, signs, and wonders.

Part VI The Preparation of the Disciples by the King: This section covers the final period of His public ministry, and there is a special focus on preparing the disciples for their future work, described in the book of Acts.

Part VII The Official Presentation of the King: This section actually closes His public ministry. It begins with His triumphant ride into Jerusalem and final conflict with the Pharisees and closes with His lengthy denunciation of the spiritual leaders of Israel for leading the nation to reject Him. He also lays down the precondition for His return and the setting up of the Messianic Kingdom.

Part VIII The Preparation for the Death of the King: This section begins with the Olivet Discourse, which contains prophecies of the coming destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple and His second coming. This is followed by His last Passover and the Upper Room Discourse and concludes with the agony of Gethsemane.

Part IX The Trial of the Messiah: Here the rejection of the Messiah is carried out.

Part X The Death of the King: The events surrounding the death of the Messiah are detailed here in chronological sequence.

Part XI The Resurrection and the Ascension of the King: This marks the period of the final training of the apostles and the ascension of the Messiah to Heaven. It concludes with a promise of His return.

Part XII The Sequels: The reminder of the New Testament records occurrences in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the surrounding Gentile world in the immediate decades after Y'shua's ascension. This concluding section will look at the New Testament development of several issues that originated in the Gospels.
